Ingredients

  • 2 shots fresh espresso ≈ 60 ml
  • 15 –30 ml cold brew concentrate optional — for deeper flavor
  • 1 to 1.5 tbsp simple syrup
  • or honey / maple syrup
  • 2 –3 drops vanilla extract
  • 1 cup ice cubes large cubes preferred
Optional creamy twist
  • 1 –2 tbsp oat milk or regular milk
Garnish — 2 or 3 coffee beans

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Strainer
  • martini glass
  • Spoon.
  • Ice cubes
  • chilled glass
  • small measuring cup

Method

Step 1 — Brew the espresso and let it cool a little
  1. Start by brewing two fresh shots of espresso. Strong, bold, aromatic — that deep coffee smell that fills the room for a second. Once it’s brewed, don’t rush it straight into the shaker. Set the cup on the counter and let it cool for about 2–3 minutes. It shouldn’t be hot — just lightly warm. Hot espresso melts ice too fast and kills the foam… trust me, I’ve made that mistake before. Warm espresso = smoother flavor + better texture.
Step 2 — Add ingredients to the shaker
  1. Take your shaker — or a mason jar or steel bottle if that’s what you’ve got (real kitchens are flexible). Pour in:
  2. the espresso
  3. simple syrup
  4. a few drops of vanilla
  5. optional splash of cold brew if you want deeper flavor
  6. Give the shaker a tiny swirl. Nothing dramatic — just enough to let everything come together for a second.
  7. Feels good already.
Step 3 — Add the ice
  1. Now fill the shaker with large ice cubes — almost to the top. Larger ice melts slower and helps create that creamy espresso foam on top. Smaller ice turns watery too fast. You’ll notice the difference once you’ve tried both.
  2. A little detail… big impact.
Step 4 — Shake — confidently, not gently
  1. Close the lid tightly.
  2. Now shake.
  3. Not light shaking… not shy shaking… but firm, steady shaking for 15–20 seconds. You should hear the ice knocking around inside — that sharp clink-clink sound. Halfway through, the shaker will start to feel cold in your hands. That’s when you know the foam is forming.
  4. Keep going just a little longer.
  5. This is the part that feels oddly calming — like your brain switches off for a moment and it’s just you and the rhythm of the shaker.
Step 5 — Strain and pour into the glass
  1. Open the lid gently — tiny pause — then strain the drink into a chilled martini glass. Pour slowly. The liquid flows in first… then the foam slowly starts to rise to the top all on its own.
  2. It almost looks like it’s taking a breath.
  3. And honestly — I always stop here for a second just to admire it.
  4. Silky, smooth, soft crema-style foam sitting right on top.
  5. That’s when you know you did it right.
Step 6 — Garnish and serve immediately
  1. Finish with two or three coffee beans on top. Not necessary for flavor — but it feels elegant, almost ceremonial, like the final signature on the drink.
  2. Serve it right away.
  3. Foam waits for nobody.
  4. Hold the glass. Take a small sip — not a big gulp — just enough for the foam to hit your lip first, then the deep espresso, then the gentle sweetness that follows.
  5. You’ll probably pause for a moment.
  6. Because it doesn’t just taste like coffee…
  7. …it tastes like a quiet evening.
  8. A calm moment in a glass.
  9. Sip slow — and enjoy it.
