Ingredients

  • 2 tsp dill powder or crushed dried dill
  • tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp vinegar powder important—this gives that real tang
  • ¾ tsp salt adjust later
  • ½ tsp sugar tiny amount… don’t skip
  • ½ tsp citric acid optional but powerful
  • ¼ tsp mustard powder
  • Chili flakes or cayenne – optional to taste

Equipment

  • A large mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoons
  • Baking tray or air fryer basket
  • Parchment paper or foil
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Small bowl for seasoning
  • Oven, air fryer, or stovetop pan
  • Zip-lock bag
  • Paper towels

Method

Step 1: Prepare Your Snack Base
  1. Cook your base first.
  2. Popcorn → air pop or stovetop
  3. Potatoes → bake or air fry till crispy
  4. Chickpeas → roast till dry and crunchy
  5. Nuts → lightly roast
  6. Don’t season yet. Let them be blank.
Step 2: Make the Pickle Seasoning
  1. Mix all dry seasoning ingredients in a small bowl. Smell it. Seriously. That smell tells you if you’re close.
  2. Too sharp? Add a pinch of sugar.
  3. Too flat? More dill or vinegar powder.
Step 3: Light Oil or Moisture
  1. This part matters.
  2. Drizzle just a little oil over the snack. Or mist it. You don’t want greasy—just enough for seasoning to stick.
  3. If skipping oil, lightly spray pickle juice. Very lightly. Overdoing it makes things soggy. Been there. Regret follows.
Step 4: Toss and Taste
  1. Sprinkle seasoning. Toss gently. Taste.
  2. Pause. Think. Adjust.
  3. This is where human cooking happens. Maybe more salt. Maybe more tang. Maybe chili. You’ll know.
Step 5: Final Crisp (Optional but Recommended)
  1. Pop it back into the oven or air fryer for 3–5 minutes. Just to lock flavor in.
  2. Let it cool a bit. Flavor deepens as it rests.
