Ingredients

  • 3 ripe guavas pink or white, both work
  • inches fresh ginger peeled, roughly sliced
  • 2 cups water for blending guava
  • 1 cup water for ginger infusion
  • 2 –3 tablespoons honey or sugar adjust… always adjust
  • Juice of 1 lime or lemon optional but recommended
  • Chilled soda water or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes
Optional extras (playtime ingredients):
  • A pinch of black salt
  • Mint leaves
  • A tiny pinch of chili powder trust me… or don’t

Equipment

  • A blender
  • A fine strainer or muslin cloth
  • A small saucepan
  • A knife & cutting board
  • A spoon
  • A jug or large glass
  • Serving glasses

Method

Step 1: Prep the Guava
  1. Wash the guavas well. Chop them roughly—skins on, seeds included. We’ll deal with texture later.
  2. Drop them into the blender with about 2 cups of water. Blend until smooth-ish. Not silky. Just… blended.
  3. Now strain it. Yes, this part takes a minute. Use a spoon to press it through. This removes the seeds and grit. Worth it.
  4. You’ll end up with a thick, fragrant guava juice. Set it aside.
  5. (At this point your kitchen already smells good. Just saying.)
Step 2: Ginger Infusion
  1. Add ginger slices and 1 cup water to a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5–7 minutes.
  2. Don’t rush this. Ginger needs time to release its personality.
  3. Turn off the heat. Let it cool slightly. Strain.
  4. Taste it.
  5. Too strong? Add a splash of water.
  6. Too mild? Next time, more ginger.
Step 3: Sweeten & Balance
  1. In a jug, combine:
  2. Guava juice
  3. Ginger infusion
  4. Honey or sugar
  5. Lime or lemon juice
  6. Stir well. Taste. Pause. Taste again.
  7. This is where you adjust. A little more sweet. A little more tang. This part is personal.
Step 4: Sparkle Time
  1. Just before serving, add chilled soda water. Stir gently—don’t kill the bubbles.
  2. Add ice. Pour into glasses.
  3. Top with mint or a pinch of black salt if you’re feeling playful.
  4. And… done.
